REGISTRATION OF THE BIRTH AND BENEFITS

WHAT SHOULD THE PARENT DO WHEN A CHILD IS BORN INTO THE FAMILY?

At the latest within ONE month from the date of the birth of the child, the child must be given a name, which means registering the birth at a Vital Statistics Department (preferably according to the Population Register).

CONTACT

Tallinn Vital Statistics Department
Pärnu mnt 67
Telephone: 645 7488
Opening hours:
Mon – 8.15 am to 6 pm
Tues – 1 pm to 5 pm
Wed & Thurs – 8.15 am to 5 pm

In the absence of a Vital Statistics Department, citizens who are registered elsewhere than in Tallinn should contact their local government. The local government should also be contacted to apply for the local government’s one-time birth allowance.

Bring to the registration:

The identity documents of both parents;
The marriage certificate;
The second parent’s application for the child’s name (in cases where only one parent is present for the registration of the birth).

NB! If the parents are cohabiting, both must be present with their identity documents.
